Age today
Use this page when the reference is the current local date and the subject is a birth date. It is optimized for the familiar “How old am I?” question.

Enter a birth date in YYYY-MM-DD form and measure completed calendar years, months, and days through today. The result keeps calendar age separate from total elapsed days and states how February 29 anniversaries are handled.

A personal age through the current local date
The calculator accepts a valid Gregorian birth date no later than today. It reports completed years, months, and days, with supporting totals kept separate so different meanings are not blended into one number.

Calendar units have variable lengths
A calendar age answers how many whole anniversaries and calendar-month steps have been completed. The calculation first advances the birth date by whole years without crossing today, then advances by whole months, and finally counts the leftover date boundaries. February can contain 28 or 29 days, while other months contain 30 or 31, so there is no single month length suitable for an exact calendar decomposition.
Total elapsed days can still be useful for a milestone or record, but it answers a different question. Dividing that total by 365 ignores leap days; dividing by 365.2425 gives an astronomical average rather than a birthday convention. This page therefore labels calendar units and elapsed-day totals independently.
Today comes from the browser's current local calendar date. The calculator operates on date-only values rather than midnight timestamps, preventing a time-zone offset from silently moving an entered birthday to the previous day.
State the convention before trusting the number
Use the word “exact” only within these declared Gregorian date-only and February 29 rules. An official age determination may depend on jurisdiction, a cutoff time, supporting documents, or a definition that this general calculator cannot know.
Choose the calculator by the question
Use this page when the reference is the current local date and the subject is a birth date. It is optimized for the familiar “How old am I?” question.
Use the age on a specific date calculator for a historical or future reference, such as age on a past event date.
Use the days between dates calculator when the primary result is a count of date boundaries with explicit inclusion choices.
Use the birthday countdown to find the next annual occurrence rather than decompose the complete age.
Rules and limitations
It advances from the birth date through completed Gregorian calendar years, then completed calendar months, then remaining days. It does not divide a total day count by an average year or month length.
Enter the birth date as YYYY-MM-DD using the Gregorian calendar. The labeled fields and native date control may display differently according to browser locale, but the stored value follows that year-month-day order.
When an anniversary year has no February 29, this calculator clamps the calendar anniversary to February 28 for its arithmetic. Other institutions may use March 1, so check the rule that governs any official decision.
No. Calendar age is expressed in completed calendar units whose lengths vary. Total elapsed days is a separate measurement, and elapsed hours can also depend on time zone and daylight-saving transitions.
No. The result is general calendar arithmetic and does not decide legal adulthood, employment, school, insurance, retirement, benefit, or identity requirements. Use the responsible authority's definitions and records.
